I feel like there are a lot of runners out there that are hitting their mid-way training and are having a bit of a struggle regaining their focus and motivation. I can attest to this claim and after this weekend, I vowed to renew my running mojo and get in every workout this week.
So what happened this morning? Didn’t wake up until 5:30, damn it! I guess today’s run will have to be a post-work debacle. But it shall be done, oh yes, it shall be done (extra bonus points for anyone who know that movie reference)!
This weekend I denied any Friday night libations in preparation for Saturday’s 20-miler. Well rested, well fed, and partially hydrated, I headed out to Danville and hopped on the Ironhorse Trail. The first half of the run is full of beautiful trees and some gorgeous homes to lust after. In fact, I was running by this horse and it was almost as if he wanted his photo taken. And so it shall be…SNAP!
The great news: I felt strong and my pace was exactly where I wanted it to be. The bad news: Around mile 15, I just got bored. Yes, my knee and hip started to ache like an old woman, but my stamina was fine. The fact of the matter was I just got plain ol’ bored and was just ready to be done and get on with my day.
So my question to all those putting in long mileage, what do you do when you are running by yourself and you get bored?
On the non-running front, this weekend was filled with running errands, deep cleaning the apartment, baking a delish peach and blueberry cobbler, hanging out with Chicken’s sister, going into Target for baking powder and literally coming out with a printer (how do they do that?!), and of course, lunch and Mootopia with Allison.
What is Mootopia, you ask? It’s a little pop-up event that the Got Milk people put on to try and promote the fact that milk is good for your hair, nails and body i.e. free hair braiding and bang trims (weird, right?) and free polish changes (which were not so good). Buuut, Allison and I did have a great time scoring free swag and taking crazy photos.
The best part of it all? Allison literally got her bangs trimmed, for free, at Mootopia. I kid you not. That girl is bold, but I’ll just stick with my 5-year-old braid.
Happy Monday and happy running!
When I get bored I try and think of where I will be at that point in a race and try and disctract myself with that and when all else fails I think of food that I will be consuming after my run…lol
Nice job on your 20!
when i get bored i try not to step on cracks or look for random animals or bugs along the way. VERY exciting! or i do math or talk to myself. its pretty exciting when running with me! muahahahah! 🙂 great job on the run!
First off, you’re hardcore for doing it on the Iron Horse trail. That trail gets boring quickly! When you look ahead all you see is the looooonnnnnggggg running path! And, if you’re a moron like me, you start in the wrong direction and end up going up hill at the END of your run – not bueno.
Second, you did it by yourself! I have to have a sherpa with me! Or a friend! Good job girlie!
And thirdly – where’s the pic of your braids? Have a good week!
