In exactly one week I will be frolicking around a new city with Chicken Face, doing our tourist duties and partaking in new experiences. You see, I have this “thing” about experiences…I love them. Whether they’re awful, hilarious, or simply simple, I just like trying new things so we can have that experience and memory. Yes, I’m that gal who says, “One day, we’ll look back at this moment and say ‘remember when’…”
But let’s be honest, getting me out of my PJs after a stressful day at work is no easy task. I’ll complain, or most likely already be passed out (I can literally sleep ANYWHERE), but when I muster up the strength and banish the laziness, I love to experience new things.
Thus, as we venture off to Chicago for work and the race (how convenient!), I’m looking to you for any fan-frickin-tastic “experience” recommendations. What should we do? What should we see? Where should we eat? I know the Chicago Marathon folks put out a list of things to do and see, but I’d love to hear your favorite Windy City spots so we can be sure to soak up as much as possible!
During my last marathon (the LA marathon), I had an experience that can’t be beat (cough::engagement::cough), but I think we could still conjure up some good ones in Chi Town.
I don’t think I’ll be able to ever beat this experience…tear!
Thanks in advance and I’ll be sure to report back with cheese-a-rific photos!
I live fairly close to Chicago and yet I’ve never been in the city (just driving through). Wish I could help ya out..
You got ENGAGED at your last marathon?! That is so WONDERFUL! I told my dad to tell my future husband that out engagement day better have something to do with running! š Lucky lady you are!
ok. i love chicago. like LOVE it. i’ve only ever been in the winter. so for me to say i love a place where i’ve frozen my ass off like that, it must really be amazing and it is – it’s my second favorite city.
my recommendations:
museum of contemporary art chicago
art institute of chicago
train out to frank lloyd wright’s house
drinks at night at the top of the hancock building
michigan avenue (stop in to the american girl store it’s totally SO CREEPY!! but very entertaining)
the field museum
tea (and/or a massage – pretty sure you deserve a massage after a marathon and their spa is glorious) at the ritz carlton
a walking architecture tour – never done this, but hear it’s great
breakfast at a diner – any diner would do – like a good inner-city, ethnically owned diner with pancakes and bacon and oj.
have a blast! can’t wait to see pictures! give chi-town my best!
