Ladies and gentlemen…we’ve opened our gifts. We’ve celebrated with our friends and families. And we’ve indulged in three pieces of lemon meringue pie (that wasn’t just me, right?!). But today is the start of something new. It’s the start of 16 weeks towards one of my bucket list items. It’s go time folks. Dun dun dunnnnnn.
Wait, I thought I said Monday’s would be rest days? ‘Tis true…but the next month is full of traveling for weddings, vacation (yay!) and more, so I already have to switch up the schedule a bit to ensure that I get training in and still make my flights on time 😉
Who else is starting training this week/month?
Despite getting randomly sick, the holidays were everything I hoped they would be. Family, food, movies, surprises and new holiday traditions, including a pre-present Christmas morning run!
My sister’s husband is a big runner (not to mention incredibly fast), so I suckered him in to meeting me for a cold trail run Christmas morning while everyone else was asleep. One of my all-time favorite trails is literally behind my parent’s house so we grabbed the dogs and made our way into the cold.
I’m still questioning why I post such scary photos…EEK!
The air was crisp beyond belief (cleared my lungs out really well) and the mud from the previous week’s rain hadn’t dried, but instead froze. What does this mean? Imagine thousands of little potholes, i.e. danger zone! It was incredibly hard to run as I didn’t have trail shoes nor was I prepared to pay that much attention on a run. But slushing through it and the snow was worth every precautionary step.
The holiday weekend also included…
New Vomeros!
Finding our stash of old-school video games (and realizing I’m still not any good at them).
And a whole lotta family love! (Why is this photo so pixelated?! Damn you iPhone 4!)
Here’s to the start of something great…happy running!

I starting base training this month and am excited to kick off the year marathon training! Looks like you had a great Christmas with the fam! 🙂
Awesome that you pulled out your Nintendo, Super Nintendo and Gamecube! I still like playing my Nintendo sometimes, though most games don’t work anymore unfortunately. I was playing Bubble Bobble and Tecmo Bowl the other day, haha Great that you got new shoes!
Such a pretty Christmas run, love that!! Always such a great feeling to get a great run in before a holiday of over indulgence 🙂 Yay for new shoes!!
