Goodbye January, hello busiest month ever. February 2011 is not for the faint of heart, but I couldn’t be more excited as it kicks off my race schedule for 2011 and has some very exciting surprises in store. But before I spill the surprise secrets, I thought now would be better than ever to share my 2011 races schedule (thus far) and see who else will be there.
Surf City Half Marathon: February 6, 2011
Why hello first race of the season…you’re this weekend! I’m looking forward to heading down south to see Danica, Maritza, Tara and the whole gang as I add this race to the roster. I may or may not be doing this race solely for the incredibly adorable surf board medals and because it’s part of the California Dreaming series.
Oakland Half Marathon: March 27, 2011
Did you know that Active.com now has a Groupon-like feature? Heck yes it does! It’s called Schwaggle and is the reason I scored $50 entry to this race. I love a good deal!
Boston Marathon: April 18, 2011
The big day. I’m currently more nervous for this than my wedding! You can see my training plan here and my lil’ BQ story here.
Big Sur Marathon (The Boston 2 Big Sur Challenge): May 1, 2011
I’m still not sure how I’m going to make it alive, but as we all know, I love a good challenge. Here’s to the beautiful views, time with friends and some extra race bling blang.
The SF Marathon: July 31, 2011
For more reasons than you would care that I explain…the SF marathon in July! The hills, the fog, the rain…everything makes me so excited for this race! I better see all of you out on the hills with me then!
In 2010 I got a bit race happy and while racing included some of my favorite memories from the year, my wallet felt the pain. Couple that with a wedding and you can see how it’s become a priority for me to only sign up for races that I really want to run in…not just because they’re having a race.
So there we are (thus far) folks; one race a month for the next four months. However, I would love to continue racing once a month to keep the energy alive. What races do you recommend for June, July and August? Will I be able to see any of your smiling faces at the races above?
Happy running!

Day 36: Had to leave for the office at 5:45 this morning. Will try and get in 7 mi. tonight….
You have a lot of fun races coming up! Good luck this weekend!
what a killer race schedule! I would 100 percent want to do all of those races…and Boston of course I am doing and it’s already making me sleepless at night I’m so excited! I love that all of your races are at least a half marathon. you are a true distance chica
good luck this weekend in so cal! and see you at oaktown!
Boston, baby! See you there 🙂
Wish I could do Boston 2 Big Sur, but the trip to Beantown will be expensive enough…Big Sur is definitely on my list of races to do…someday…
You will definitely be seeing my face at quite a few of these events 🙂
I went buck-wild last year with races and throw tris into the mix and my savings account suffered greatly. This year I am trying to stay more local and really plan things out better, so I can actually save some of the money I make!
I can’t think of any June or August races off the top of my head, but there is always SF in July 🙂
Awesome list and great job holding yourself back for what you REALLY want to go after. I agree, 5-10k’s can very quickly add up and make me sick when I look at how much I spent on them. Also, this post really made me want to run the SF Marathon! I have never been and I am obsessed with visiting, it’s pretty much my dream vaca at this point! I made a pact with myself that I wouldn’t run a marathon this year, so maybe in 2012?!?! Or maybe if I have a change of heart? Great list and I am looking forward to meeting you in Boston!!
oh NOOOOO!!! what day was the schwaggle thing/ discount for the Oakland marathon!? I’m the cheapest runner you will ever meet and I NEED THAT SCHWAGGLE! p.s. I live in Oakland. Must. Get. Schwaggle.
I really should come to SFM this spring…..
hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm 🙂
Awesome – that sounds like a great race schedule! I wish I could run more races during the winter, but I never seem to be able to stay in top shape due to rain, it getting dark after work, and tax season. I’m only going to be at 1 of the races you list above (SF marathon, I’m going to do the 2nd half one this year like you did last year, haha)
And I signed up for Chicago Marathon! I was curious, did you stay at the sponsored hotel the Hilton Chicago? I was thinking of flying in Friday, going to expo on Sat, run the marathon on Sun,and fly back Sun night. Is that too brutal of a schedule to fly back the same day you run the marathon? I figure I could try to get a flight around 6 PM or so, that way I have time to recover from the marathon a little (it likely will be over by 11 AM)…
And if you want a race in June, I’m going to do the Rock N Roll San Diego half marathon – but you might be burned out after doing 2 marathons, haha
In July I’m also likely doing Wharf to Wharf the week before the SF half marathon:
http://www.wharftowharf.com/ – 6 miles
Not 100% sure if I’m going to do it, but it’s always a fun race
For August if you want some tough hills, this is a fun race:
Dammit Run – 5 miles

Dang it!!! I missed the US Half Groupon and now this schwaggle business! I was kind of on hold until I knew my knee was okay and I think I’m there. So…yay! Oakland Half is on my list!
Awesome race schedule! I’m hoping to run my first marathon after my half marathon this spring. It should be an exciting year. 🙂
I’m going to be at surf city cheering on some friends! I wanted to do it but I have 16 miles scheduled this weekend so I decided to stick with it. Maybe I’ll see you down there:)
Yeah! Maybe I’ll see you and good luck with the 16!
