I’ve been hinting at it for the past couple of weeks, but the time has finally come. Tomorrow, I’m headed back to New York City for the remainder of the work week! While it may be for business, NYC holds a special place in my heart. Of course there was the NYC Marathon, but I also did an internship at Rolling Stone (and lived out of what seemed to be a miniature shoe box), another short internship at a Conde Nast magazine, my mom and sisters have had many girls’ trips there and early in our relationship Chicken Face came to visit me while I was working there – our first “vacation” ever.
However, I’m especially excited for this work trip as I’ll be attending IFB’s Evolving Influence conference for one of my clients. The day-long event features panel discussions by some of the best fashion bloggers out there (I know, fashion bloggers? Still…very cool), a keynote speech by the folks at Proenza Schouler and an awesome booth that we are putting together for my client. You better believe that I’ll be taking my new toy with me!
But here’s a bigger dilemma: this event is part of New York Fashion week and as much as I love fashion, a large majority of my disposable income goes to races, Vomeros, and tempo track shorts – and I don’t think showing up in a singlet and racing tight would be…ehem…acceptable. Thus, I’m sure that tonight my closet will explode in a rage of desperate fury as I empty it out searching for the right thing to wear and still not find anything. Keep your fingers crossed for me.
Second item up for discussion: where to run! I schedule my flight a bit later on Friday so I can try and sneak in a run early Friday morning. While I’ve run the New York City marathon before, casually running around the city has been minimal. I’ll be staying in SoHo so any recommendations for your favorite running routes in the city would be greatly appreciated. If they happen to go by a soft pretzel stand – bonus points for you!
I’ll be sure to report back on the bitter cold, the sights, the bloggers, the event, the panels, the runs and of course….the soft pretzels (I think it’s pretty clear now that I’m obsessed with soft pretzels.)
P.S. These photos are from my internship days and so old I had to hunt them down from my MySpace account. GASP!
Happy running!

Day 42: 6 recovery miles
Yay NYC! I’d (obviously) recommend getting up to Central Park if you can. The dirt bridle path (my fave place to run in the park) is currently buried by snow but the main drive is about 6.1-6.2 miles around the entire loop so you can get in a pretty good run.
Since you are in Soho I’d recommend heading over to the West Side Highway/Hudson River Park and running along the path there. You can run north or south for miles and miles! My favorite part is headed south near Battery Park City, and then you’ll hit lower Manhattan..if you feel adventurous, head over the Brooklyn Bridge and back (but beware of dodging weekend tourists!)
awww you are coming to NYC?! I wish you would be here over the weekend and I would totally come in and meet you! Have a blast and don’t work too hard. So cool that you used to intern at Conde Nast. Other than Central Park, I am not really sure about running routes, and that is obviously not near Soho.
Have a safe trip to NYC! I also have fond memories of the city from various visits, and probably my favorite, running the NYC Marathon in ’08 🙂 I share your obsession for soft pretzels…I was there last month with my mom and made her stop several times so I could get one 🙂 Also, be sure to bundle up! The North East has been ridiculously cold and snowy this winter, bla! While you’re there you should stop at Supper restaurant, super cheap and amazing Italian, great fuel before a run on Friday! 🙂 It’s not too far from SoHo on the lower east side at 156 East 2nd Street. Have a great trip and I can’t wait to see the pictures!
Ohhhh I heart NY! I can’t wait to hear about all the fashion gossip and soft pretzels you eat! I would for sure runt hrough Central Park. Have an amazing trip!!
Definitely Central Park and the West Side Highway! Let me know if you have any questions!
oh man i love pink berry. I miss it. I love NYC, I’ve never lived there, only visited, but have an amazing time when I’m there.
Hope you enjoy your trip!
Have fun in NYC and enjoy the cold and snow!! I spend most of my money on running stuff too – I just bought 4 new pairs of heels/boots on Saturday because I desperately needed them! That is the most I have ever bought in one time! Usually I am buying running shoes!
i would totally not have anything to wear. my friend told me the other day i should be on tlc’s what not to wear because even when I’m not working out, I’m wearing my lulu tights or mizunos. have a blast!!!
Have fun in NYC! I’m jealous! 🙂
awe! Young Page!

youre so cute! Safe travels! Hope you have a great time in NYC! Go run in central park, my favorite.

Whaaat!? New York’s subways are empty!? Don’t know how you managed to reserve your own car on the train, but it sure makes NY look good.
I always thought it seemed so glamorous to have a job that required traveling. you’re a big shot! have fun!
Oh my gosh I would probably have a panic attack if I had to pack for fashion week! Have fun!
Unfortunately I’m no help in the running route department…but I just had to ask: is your friend eating a bowl of tartar sauce in that picture?!?!? Obviously I’m not up on Pinkberry 🙂
Have a great trip!!
