The Good & The Bad

Today, I have some exciting news and some sad/embarrassing news to report. Let’s rip it off like a Band-Aid and get the bad news out of the way first.

The Bad News: My iPod shuffle is missing. Again. My little pink baby who has accompanied through some of the best moments in my running career snapped off somewhere at my gym and is nowhere to be found. I looked like an idiot crawling on the ground, looking under treadmills and stalking the front desk folks hoping some good citizen of the world tuned it in. So I beg you, if you see her, she’s about an inch by an inch and a pretty pink, please notify me asap! (I may or may not admit to this being the second iPod shuffle I’ve lost…)

The Good News: Today’s run was emotionally wonderful. I was pounding out 10 normal miles on the treadmill when I found myself reminiscing about the Shreadmill class and how the 5:xx pace made a debut for a short time. During the last stretch of today’s run, I was curious as to whether or not I still had it in me (the last time I had run a 5:XX mile was in high school). Whoa, did I just challenge myself? You better bet your ass I did – so off I went! I don’t know what the average pace was but I started in the 5:40s and ended at 5:15. The smile across my face must have looked ridiculous.

Happy Friday and happy running!

Ugh I could NEVER get below 6 minutes in the mile. My best is a 6:07 or 6:10. Still bothers me to this day…. :p

Way to haul some booty on that 10 miler! :)

  2. Keri says:

Wow, on a treadmill?! I would be too worried I’d fly off the back…good for you!! Happy Friday!

  3. ShortSkirts says:

Congrats thats awesome, about your pace! Not your shuffle, hopefully the little guy turns up!

  4. RoseRunner says:

ack, that is so fast! I would fear for my life if a treadmill-mill was moving underneath me that fast! Did you keep that up for an entire mile!? Or more!?

As for the ipod shuffle: mine die every 12-13 months, right after the warranty is up, so no difference in losing it once a year. It would have died soon anyway. I kind of hate Apple products because of my ipod death rate.

  5. Emily says:

holy speed!!!! and my ipod just died. i feel your pain.

  6. Average A says:

Holy crap, you are good! Sorry about the iPod. :(

  7. katie says:

crikey pete, that’s awesome! the 5, not the shuffle. i’ll confess to having more than one go through the washer (and dryer)….sigh.

  8. J says:

I would so fall off the treadmill if I went that fast! Great job and enjoy the weekend!

  9. Nelly says:

That is too bad about your ipod, hopefully you find it somehow!

That is seriously INSANE about how fast you were going on the treadmill! I’m actually not sure if the treadmills at the gym I go to go above 10 mph or not. (the fastest I’ve seen anyone run on one is 10 mph) Running 11.4 mph is seriously nuts, I couldn’t imagine going that fast on a treadmill, I would be afraid of tripping and face planting! You are going to kill that 5K race that you’re doing soon! I’m starting to think that you might be able to go below 18:30 or something, with how good your running is going recently.

  10. Morgan says:

    Girl you are my hero!!!

  11. evamadera says:

Congrats on your pace! That’s spectacular!
I know what you mean about missing an ipod. (only mine was actually stolen, twice, (aka two different ones) by my students. That was fun. :D

  12. Poor ipod shuffle!! The Fifth Avenue Mile is big in NYC and it was fun to see how fast I could go in the middle of marathon training…only three seconds off my high school PR! Makes me wonder what I could do if I hadn’t done a long run the day before…

  13. Nicole says:

with the loss of one ipod, comes the purchase of a new one! eee :)

  14. Laura says:

Are you kidding me?! You ran a whole mile in less than 6 minutes?! After running 10 other miles?!

  15. Wow that is SO AMAZING!! AND after running 10 miles?! You are my HERO! :D

  16. Beth says:

Wow, congrats on your superfast mile!

  17. Simply Life says:

wow, I can’t believe you ran that far on a treadmill! It always starts to hurt my knee after about 3…

  18. Penny says:

Oh no! I’m so sorry about your ipod shuffle. I hope you find it!
I lost mine last year and went to the Apple store to replace it. The only model they had available was the *newest* one at the time, the 3rd generation. At least now, if you do need to replace yours, you can get the 4th generation which is more like the one you’re searching for.
Great job on your super studly pace on the TM!! :-)

  19. swimmykimy says:

Oh man, I have definitely done that frantic ipod search at the gym, my apartment, sidewalk, my boyfriend’s car etc. It’s a small miracle I haven’t lost it for good yet! I hope you find it soon! Also, amazing work on pushing yourself to the 5:15 pace, you are such a rock star!!!
