Well, folks, I have some news that I’m not so happy about, but unfortunately, it’s the nature of the beast. One of our new clients at work is launching their biggest product of the year on November 8th – yes, the Tuesday right after the Two Cities Marathon. While this would seemingly not be an issue, this launch is going to require me to work many upcoming weekends, including the weekend of the November 6th – race day.
Thus, I will not be running the Two Cities Marathon.
Le sigh – that was tough. I don’t think that my colleagues quite understand what that means. All of the miles, all of the time, all of the sweat put in thus far, don’t they understand?! Plus, I’ve never not raced in a full marathon that I’ve committed to, so this is definitely a new feeling for me. I almost feel like I’ve let myself down in a strange way, but I know I have to remind myself that this was not a personal choice, but a requirement that I could not get out of.
I know that come November 6th I’ll be wondering “what if” and will be not my usual self that day, so if you see me, I’d recommend either staying far away or wooing me with Starbucks and yogurt covered pretzels (I can be easily wooed).
Now that I got that little vent session done, the only thing I can do now is look forward. I’m going to set some new goals (more on that later) and pick out a new A-race. The good news is that the miles I’ve been putting in thus far will only help solidify a stronger base and I’ll get to do some highly-coveted fall/winter training.
So tell me, have you ever had to back out of your A-race?
What full would you recommend next?
Oh! I’d also love your help voting for me in the Nike Women’s Marathon Runway Crew Contest. From now until Monday, simply click here to vote each day! The person with the most votes has a chance at a “Nike-approved entourage on race day!” I’d love, love, love your support and if you could share it with your friends, Twitter peeps, blogs — you know, the whole kit and kaboodle!
A BIG thank you for your help and happy running!
