While they aren’t the most exciting posts, I want to start recapping the training week to not only hold myself responsible, but also shed some light on the details of IMAZ training. Plus, then you don’t have to hear me ramble on about training everyday.
Since training officially started on Wednesday, week one was a bit short, but nonetheless, was still week one.
Wednesday: Swim (a.m.) / Cycle (p.m.)
Swam for 1300 yards, focusing on form drills and getting re-acclimated to the water.
Cycled for an hour, working from my coach’s prescribed workout with single legs drills and endurance building. Cycling in front of the Christmas tree while watching the Victoria Secret Fashion show is sick and twisted.
Thursday: Rest
Yes, on day two. Thursdays and Sundays are my rest days for this early period of the training cycle, thus, I rested.
Friday: Run
An easy 5.7 miles in 45 minutes to shake out the legs from the race.
Saturday: Cycling 101
I met with my coach to review cycling basics and spent time getting used to my bike, including setting up the rack on the back of my car! I was (and still am) abnormally nervous.
Sunday: Cycle
My excited, yet I’m so freaking freezing, face
My gym has a 90-minute spin class every Sunday that is my new favorite thing, so much in fact, that Oprah should probably put in on her list. I sweat more than is sanitary and am actively recruiting new suckers to go with me. Let me know if you’d like to join!
How was your training week? What was your best workout of the week?
Happy Running!
Good luck with the training! I will be starting to train for my first marathon (Columbus 2012) in January. I am very nervous but so excited. “I get nervous when I don’t get nervous.” Nerves are good!
I’m new to your blog but am so glad I found it! I am so excited for you and can’t wait to read about your training you are gonna rock that ironman!
i STILL get nervous every.single.time. i drive somewhere with my bike on the rack on the back. i’m scared it’s gonna fall off and get run over! my eyes constantly dart to the rearview mirror to check every few seconds, it’s kind of ridiculous! good job on week one. i keep telling myself to enjoy the easy, shorter workouts now because they won’t last long!
I love spin and haven’t been in YEARS – my gym in SF doesn’t have it. I need to get back!
Please ramble on about your training! I’m so intrigued about following your journey during the next year. Rock on!
I spun twice – Flywheel and Soulcycle in NYC. Loved it. My butt did not.
A 90-minute Spin class sounds amazing! I can’t wait to follow your IM training. I need to be brave and start using my new bike more. I haven’t taken it out more than once yet.
OMG, I LOVE reading about the start to your training. And it’ll be so much fun to go back and read these when you’re in those crazy weeks of training next October. EEK! And ummm, watching VS while spinning – for some sick reason, it makes sense to me. Oy.
Is your gym in SF? I’m working on getting comfortable on my real bike (… it’s gonna be a long journey) for a spring Olympic tri, but I would totally be up for some 90-minute spin when the weather gets bad if your gym happens to be my gym.
Looking good!! I was so wishing I had an bike at home yesterday because I wanted to cross train but I did not want to drive to the gym! Great job on your first week! I think my best workout was running. Nothing special just a nice easy run mid week.
I’d rather have my teeth cleaned than go to spinning! I wish I liked it. Or at least didn’t hate it. 🙁 I’ve asked Santa for an Indoor trainer for xmas. Indoor Riding and 90210 and PanAm are in my future! :oP
That’s a great start, but it stresses me out that week 1 is 50 weeks before the actual event! Yikes!!
Love love love spin class. If we only lived in the same state, I would totally go with you!
I WANT TO COME….90 minute spin class=heaven. That is awesome. Biking while watching VS fashion show, girl you are on to something. Love hearing about your training!
Thats awesome that you have a 90 min cycling class you can get a group together for on Sundays as you begin building your base. Good Luck! I look forward to following your training this coming year!
Looking good so far!!! I kind of love that you’re cycling in front of the tree & Victoria Secret fashion show. Mine is set up in the basement… there’s a TV but otherwise it is sooo not inviting down there!
