Remember that time you really, really wanted to do something but you were really, really afraid to do it?
Maybe it was asking for a raise.
Maybe it was cooking a turkey.
Maybe it was bungee jumping.
Maybe it was putting your legs behind your head.
Maybe it was going on a two-hour bike ride this upcoming Saturday with your coach’s group but you’re deathly afraid that you will make a complete fool of yourself, not know proper cycling rules, get stuck in the middle of an intersection, fall over at a stop light, look like an idiot trying to clip in, get mocked because you have shoes and a bike that are so-seven-years-ago, not know how to drink and ride at the same time, get left in the dust and not know where in the hell you are or perhaps even get hit by a car and die.
Maybe that’s you. It’s definitely not me.
Nope.
Not me.
It’s actually this girl I know. She’s crazy right?
I know. What a baby.
I’ll make sure she quits her whining, then recaps us on how it went.
Good luck on the group ride! That’s a great way to become a better cyclist!
I’ve never done a group ride either. I would have all those exact same fears. I bet it will be so fun though! I plan on doing some group rides this spring. I’m actually still nervous every time I go out on my bike, and I’ve got like a million miles in. (Ok, maybe more like a thousand)
You can do it!!
I recently conquered my fear of swimming laps at the pool(as i am totally not a swimmer). And as I learned from that experience, nothing is ever as bad as we make it out to be in our heads.
Good luck. Totally routing for you to have a fun safe ride =)
Haha! Bikes can be a little frightening! Helmets too!!
you can do it! and then after you’ll feel like a total badass : )
You can do it! You can definitely a beast a bike ride.
you’ve got this one. i believe in you. 🙂
eeks! so scary! I hear peeing yourself while riding like breaks you in or something and makes you all “legit” because who has time to stop and actually get off the bike to pee!?! good luck!!! =) (make sure no one is behind you!!)
I can totally relate because this is EXACTLY how I felt a year ago! I will assure you though, the others that you will be riding with have ALL been there at one point. The first group I rode with were super, super supportive of me, even when I fell over (twice) while standing and waiting at a stop sign. They are excited when new people join the sport and join their riding groups. I think you will be surprised at the lack of judgement! Also, they will be the best ones to give you tips on how to do all of those things you are nervous about! Good luck! I am positive you will be posting after the ride at how awesome it was and how great the people were!
PAGE! You are the MOST fearless person I know. You are going to own that bike ride!
Good luck; you will be just fine. I’ve had nothing but positive experiences tackling things that terrify me (though scuba diving was a little touch and go there for a while). I’m looking forward to the recap where you realize it wasn’t that bad and you’re completely awesome 🙂
You’ll be ok, says the runner that only takes spin class, EEEEK! You’re a rockstar though so I know you’ll be fine!
Good luck! I am definitely a nervous cyclist too.
I have no idea how to do any of those things, either. Wanna bike ride together? We can get a tandem. I’ll bring my bedazzler.
Good Luck with the group ride! You are going to be way more comfortable on your bike in such a short time! I’m jealous that you can ride outside. We are currently under a winter storm warning and I have a feeling that I will be on my trainer for the next couple of months 🙁
I feel exactly the same way! You are going to awesome. Practice unclipping around the neighborhood. My neighbor’s think I’m slightly crazy but whatever 🙂
Haha I am totally afraid of falling over at a stop light too!
Page – How did it go? I’m a training for a half ironman later this year and just learning to cycle so I share some of the same sentiments. Good luck 🙂
Carolyn
Ummm…yes, I would definitely be that big baby! And for all of those reasons. But I had the same thoughts going into my first group run and it turned out great. Hope you had fun!
hope the group ride went well!
You’re so cool! I do not think I’ve read something like that before. So good to find someone with some unique thoughts on this subject. Seriously.. thanks for starting this up. This website is one thing that’s needed on the web, someone with a bit of originality! By the way nice cap.
