The past three months have been full of so many firsts that I’ve feared, overcame, then grew to love. Until today.
Today was the day that I found out about a certain four-letter word that if anyone mentions to me again I might punch them in the face and scream, “YOU SHUT YOUR DIRTY MOUTH!”
That’s right: W-I-N-D.
It probably the devil’s way of not only making your legs feel like bricks, but puts you in constant fear of being toppled over and no one can hear your screams because the wind is so loud. I’m not sure what gust speeds we faced today, but let’s just say I can feel my apartment creaking and howling because of the wind right now. Sorry Coach Paul, I know you say riding in the _______ (insert four-letter word here) is great for race day experience and pacing yourself, but I just can’t buy it.
Along with facing the ______ for the first time, it was also my first double brick (2 hour bike – 15 minute run – 2 hour bike – 20 minute run), and riding a total of 69.5 miles in the day — a new PDR! As you can see, I’m trying desperately to be optimistic here…
Next time I might want to opt for this — indoors and wind free.
What natural element do you loathe when training?
Happy Running!
That same thing you loathe…That Which Shall Not Be Named. Ever since I was a rower, it has been my least favorite weather condition. I swear…who likes it besides sailors? Really…WHO?
Ugh, that four-letter-word had me turning tail on my own ride a mile from my door and finishing the rest on a spin bike at the gym. SO, kudos to you for getting through it.
Haha, you are so cute. 🙂
I, too, loathe the ______.
I thought I hated the W—- running, but it’s a whole other animal on the bike. NOT COOL.
I agree – the W___ blows!!!!! Literally 😉
Oh don’t even get me started on wind. I HATE IT! I would rather run in snow or rain instead of wind!
give me anything other than wind…seriously. i know your pain and fear! i will add however, that cycling in the rain & wind is like the seventh circle of hell : /
That is a seriously hard core workout! So much for being a tri newbie…you are doing bada** workouts with the best of them! Oh and that stinking wind – it is absolutely killer! I am like a little baby and curl up and cry when I hit a head wind.
UGH, I hate ____! And ice or that slippery snow that you can not balance on. And snow in general is not a true love for me, because I get the worst pain (not used to running on uneven surface).
Were I usually go running, they have a track as well and at some points the track is so soft, it feels like a matrace. It`s so hard! And that is of course the only place where there is no road/pavement next to it.
mattress* sorry.
