Perhaps I’ve been a little bit anxious in titling all of my weekly recaps “Ironman Arizona.” It’s true that that is the big, bad goal in the end, but sometimes I fail to remember all of the other events that I have coming up, including a sprint, and Olympic and a half Ironman.
So here’s a look at week 18, all of which is my attempt at training for multiple events:
Mon., 4/2: Swim a.m./Core p.m.
2,220 slow meters in the morning, but it felt good to be back in the water after a light swimming week the week before. Later that night I popped in Jillian Michael’s 6-week 6-pack. It’s sad that my core wasn’t sore, but rather my butt was from the minimal about of lunges in the workout. I have some work to do…
Tues., 4/3: Run
8.5 miles of intervals on the treadmill. I swear the gym is trying to kill me as it feels like they refuse to ever turn on the AC.
Wed., 4/4: Rest
Thanks to a handy Amazon deal I had, I did the unthinkable and ordered new shoes without ever trying them on. Given that I have man feet, I order a men’s pair and am still torn. Coach Paul, please expect a phone call from me soon about these.
Thurs., 4/5: Swim a.m./Cycle p.m.
2,100 meter swim followed by an hour spin later that evening. Nothing to special to report here, so here’s a really amazing Draw Something that Chicken Face sent me. Too perfect.
Fri., 4/6: Long Ride/Run
I took Friday off of work and was anxious to get my ride on. While I was originally planning on riding with a friend, I ended up on my first solo long ride. Was this stupid? Probably given that I don’t know how to change a tire yet. But I made sure to ride an area that I was familiar with and have Chicken Face on stand by should I need him to pick me up.
The view from my ride.
A 61 mile ride and a 2.7 mile run later, I had my first awesome cycling burn.
Sat., 4/7: Aron’s 50 Miler
Spectating should definitely be considered a workout – I was toast by the end of the day and I didn’t even run. Someone get me a drink!
Sun., 4/8: Long Run
12.2 miles with two 15 minute zones three pushes. This is the first run in a long time that I actually felt amazing. I think it was partially because I was inspired by all of the AR50 runners.
I closed out week 18 with:
9 hours and 59 minutes of training (my longest week yet):
4,702.5 yards swimming
77 miles cycling
22.9 miles running
30 minutes core strengthening
How did your week go? Craziest place you’ve ever gotten a sunburn?
