I’ll admit it. I’m a total creeper.
Some of my favorite blog posts are always the “what’s inside my purse, closet, make-up drawer, refrigerator…” you get the point. I was contemplating doing one of those, but then I looked down and there it was. The one thing that is always glued to my side and if it’s not, I have a mild heart attack. My iPhone.
This little piece of magic holds my entire world and might be even more telling than what’s in my purse, closet or gym bag. Plus, I’m in love with all things digital so I couldn’t think of anything more perfect. Presenting…
Let’s start where it all begins – what I like to call my home screen.
Of course, the background is of little Lola looking ever so adorable on the beach in her camo sweater.
On this first page, I keep all of the apps that I access most frequently, including categorized folders of my frequented apps.
Social is always on page one because, well, I’m addicted…err…I mean it’s my job. I leave Facebook and Twitter out of the social folder because I access those so much I wanted to cut out an extra step.
One app that I’d like to call out is Pair. It’s a fun app that you and your significant other use to communicate just between each other. You can text, send your location, draw or send pictures, “thumb kiss,” simply hit the “Thinking Of You” button, and more. It’s cheesy, adorable and perfect for the annoyingly mushy couple in your life. Here’s a special gem I drew for Chicken Face explaining my day:
Also on my homepage is my IMAZ folder. This includes apps to the Speedo Pace Club app that I used when I was learning how to swim, links to my WorkoutLog, links to the gym class schedule, links to a doc that has my heart rate zones, and nutrition tracking (which I don’t actually use).
Here’s a glimpse at page two. Notice the prioritization: food is first.
I actually don’t use any of these running apps frequently, but I like to have them on hand. You never know when you’ll need a training plan or need to calculate pace.
I use my Health folder a lot more, specifically for Nike Training Club. I’ve been using that app to lead me through 90 percent of my strength workouts.
Ahhhh, Entertainment. The Xfinity app is a remote control on your phone (huzzah!), Netflix for connecting to the gym TV, and Action Movie to make the most ridiculous looking action movies. Remember that time I bombed Lola?
Photography! Flickr for uploading photos so I can pull them for the blog and Diptic for photo collages. I have a couple other photo apps, but that one seems to be my favorite.
I used to have a slew of news and reading apps, but I deleted them because they were sucking up too much space. So now I just have The New York Times app and use my Kindle to read. I also always leave my last page largely blank so I can flick to that photo and show off my little fur baby.
Of course there’s a boat load of other apps, everything ranging from Bank of America, Mint, Pandora, Wunderlist and more, but like I said, just a glimpse. So tell me, what apps am I missing? What’s your MUST HAVE app?
Also, the creeper in me wants to see what’s on YOUR smartphone. Grab the smartphone creeper image up top and add post about it. I’m looking at you Aron, Cate, Caitlin, Ali, and Marlene!
Happy Running!
no you di-int! Did I just get tagged!?
I can play, but probably only ipad style…I live with a terribly sad old non-smart phone, that literally only has an 8 hour battery life, because I don’t trust myself with constant internet access in my palm….but I steal Jonathan’s iphone often enough that I’ve known for about a year now that it is time. Time to move on up.
You totally sold me on Pair. Thumb kiss!? I think that is just what I need to send some afternoon good vibes while at work. A cheesy couple is a happy couple 🙂
this is awesome! that pair app seems really cute, i’m def getting it. i’m also a big fan of the nike training app, it’s like a personal trainer when you need the motivation.
thanks for sharing!
Ohh la la creeping is my favorite! My iPhone looks SOOO different than yours. 🙂
I love this post!! SO good!! Unfortunately, I’m living in a BlackBerry world so my apps aren’t even close to being as fun as yours! I need to fix this problem asap…
You may already have these, but here are some of my favorite apps:
-Shazam-if you are listening to a song on the radio you can use the app to tell you what song it is, so useful since I love music so much
-tunein radio-can pick up radio stations across the country for free, valuable for me for listening to the 49ers games on the radio, but you also can hear random other stations across the country
-take me to my car-if you park somewhere, you can use this to record where you parked, so you can find your car. very useful if you park at a stadium or in a city you aren’t familiar with
-flixster-easy to buy movie tickets and look up schedules
-chase-not sure what bank you have, but you can deposit checks on your phone which is cool
-SF Climates-tells you the temperature of all of SF microclimates at that moment
This is amazing! Love this post. I didn’t have many fun apps before reading this…but I just downloaded about half of these, haha! So much more interesting than “what’s in my purse”! I do love my I Heart Radio app and my college alumni/sports app 🙂
love this post. and i’ll definitely have to do one of my one. right now, my 2 must have apps are SongPop and Songza. Songza has a slew of playlists and SongPop is just a fun name that tune style music game. 🙂
I love it!! I feel like I have no good apps…must download more!
OMG I feel like such an app loser. I have 1/10th as many as you.
A good stalker app you might like is Find Friends. You can link up with people and it will tell you their location and how far they are from you. Mike and I use it on long rides so we know where the other one is. We’ve also used it for a marathon when Jeremy was tracking us and he wanted to know how far away we were.
Because of your recommendation – my husband and I downloaded the Pair app over the weekend. I think I am officially driving him crazy 🙂 The thumb kiss is so ridiculous. I keep threatening to “Un-pair” him, hahaha.
Hahahaha! Glad you’re hooked 😉
Love this! Totally installing “Pair” as we speak… better get the hubs on board! Ha!
I will totally play along BUT I have to warn you, mine is pathetic! I can probably count my apps on my two hands and don’t even have any folders. You will be ashamed. hahaha
I have a question regarding the pair app! Is there a way for it to alert you when your husband texts you? I see that it works but it seems that you only know when you get a text by checking it. Hmmp.
Yes! Make sure your alerts are on for the app and you will get notified. However, it doesn’t notify you when there is a thumb kiss waiting 🙂
I’m so glad I found your blog. This is exactly what I needed. I am terrible with my iphone so seeing these apps and help from a fellow running is just fabulous.
how did you link your training spreadsheet as an app button?
I took a picture of it – and can’t get it to show that way either….
This was in a Google Spreadsheet, so when you on on the spreadsheet on the browser in your phone, hit the share icon, then “Add to Home Screen.” That’s how it worked for me. Hope this helps.
