Here we are. The start of a new week after a full seven days off, complete with adventures in Yosemite and Pacific Grove, pool days with friends, trips to the aquarium, outings with family, an indulgent treat-yo-self day, and soaking up the sun just enough to help me rest and recharge for the climb ahead.
But I can’t help but feel guilty indulging in a week of happiness with all of last week’s happenings. In between these vacation highs, I was glued to the news or lost in my thoughts, feeling confused, heartbroken, terrified, and angry. Josh would tell me, “Page, close your computer…” and I’d try to pick my jaw up off the keyboard. I still can’t find the right words to explain the rollercoaster of emotions or a proposed solution, but I do know one thing: left, right, black, white, whatever you are, we are all one with differences worth recognizing and celebrating. Let’s lead with love and compassion, and see what happens.
So in the most awkward transition ever, here’s a look at last week, this week.
Sweating through whatever I felt like that day. Vacation rules applied: hike here, run there, BBG according to plan, just get out there and sweat, doing whatever you please. This plan took me to the top of Clouds Rest in Yosemite (13 miles and 10K elevation — more on that later this week), along the coast in Pacific Grove, and on local runs and hikes in San Jose. The mileage wasn’t noteworthy, but the stupid grins across my face were. The routine starts back today.
Eating homemade arepas. We had our first arepa (strangely) in New Zealand and now I’m obsessed. I’ve made this chicken avocado arepa recipe twice and highly recommend it. P.S. I got my P.A.N. at my local Buenos Amigos.
Wearing new Oiselle Mie Tank (on sale here). One word: obsessed.
Writing nothing. Outside of the week six photography challenge post, I rested my everything on this break. Glorious indeed.
Reading Dear People Who Live in Fancy Tiny Houses. Not only is the author hilariously spot on, but, “WHAT ABOUT SEXY TIME?!”
Living for my next vacation. Is that terrible to say? Tell me, where are the best places to go in October?
Happy Running!
My heart hurts from all of last week’s sadness 🙁
Obsessed with arepas over here, too. There’s a place here in MPLS, Hola Arepa, that makes killer arepas… the shredded beef + plantain! We haven’t made them before, but this recipe looks super easy and delicious, so adding to the list!
I know a place you could go in October… 😉
Ok, twist my arm. I guess I’ll have to come visit you and get arepas now 😉
