I like to pride myself in being smart with money and a savvy shopper. Sure, you can laugh at the “coupon pouch” I carry in my purse at all times, giggle at my obsession with Target Cartwheel, and be patient while I sit in my car loading digital coupons on my phone before I step foot in a grocery store, but I’m pretty sure that the rich don’t get rich by blowing money. Plus, I have goals, people.
So when ClassPass had a $19 trial that allows you to take five studio classes for less than the price of one class, I signed up and discovered a nearby Barre3 class. I was pumped as I had been doing Barre3’s online classes using a subscription I bought in December (which is a total deal, BTW), but I have to admit: attending classes at the Barre3 Willow Glen studio turned my love for them up a notch. With their sleek design and welcoming vibe, the in-studio experience just can’t be beat.
After a night of perusing their Instagram channel, I randomly entered a contest the studio was running. To my surprise, I won a package for a free month of unlimited classes just in time for their B3 All In challenge!

If you’re wondering what Barre3 is, you’re not alone — my mom asked too. I like to say it’s a combination of pilates, yoga, and ballet with moves that don’t look that crazy difficult, but once you give it a go, you’ll beg the barre gods for forgiveness and plead that your legs to stop shaking. You may not be drenched in sweat when you leave, but you will wake-up the next morning wondering what happened to your legs?! Barre3…you’re so sneaky. I feel like its format helps build functional strength and balance that should be mandatory for any athlete, especially activating the dead glutes that us runners know far too much about.
The contest, the B3 All In challenge, and where I am in my life right now seemed to align perfectly. Starting tomorrow (Monday, January 9th) I’m committing to their B3 All In challenge: 5 workouts a week for 4 weeks — in studio or via their online classes. A challenge that will introduce a new type of structure and routine to my schedule, in addition to running, and build much needed strength back into my system.
If you see me slacking, please slap me in the face. If you want to join, even better. You can do so in studio or online —then just promise me we’ll get brunch afterward.
And for what it’s worth, Barre3 did NOT ask me to write a post as part of winning the contest. I’m just that excited about the challenge and actually doing strength training that will help, not hinder, my athletic and life endeavors.
Go on my friend, sign up! And and as Lil Dicky would say, always “$ave dat money.”
